Motion Underground is an ongoing series that explores the pulse and rhythm of life beneath the city streets. In this underground world, the constant movement of people and trains creates an energy that is both chaotic and mesmerizing, a visual symphony of speed, light, and fleeting moments.
To convey this sense of perpetual motion, I experimented with various camera settings, using slow shutter speeds to blur figures into ghostlike silhouettes and quick exposures to freeze moments in time. Lighting plays a crucial role, with the flicker of fluorescent bulbs, the gleam of steel rails, and the warm glow spilling from train windows all shaping the mood and atmosphere of the images.
Each photograph focuses less on the individuals themselves and more on the collective movement, the flow of commuters, the rush of air as a train speeds by, and the fleeting connections made in transit. In this space between stillness and speed, the underground transforms from merely a means of travel into a stage where human movement and mechanical rhythm merge into art.
